The 1988 Ford F-350 replaced the 6.9L IDI diesel with the 7.3L IDI, still an International Harvester indirect-injection design without a turbocharger. The gas engines completed the move to electronic fuel injection the same year, ending carburetors in the F-Series. Crew cab and dual-rear-wheel dually configurations carried over on the bricknose body.
