The 1957 Ford Fairlane switched to an all-new longer and lower body, with Fairlane and the new top-line Fairlane 500 riding a 118 inch wheelbase. The Fairlane 500 Skyliner arrived as the first mass-produced retractable hardtop and sold 20,766 copies in its debut year. V8 choices ran from the 272 up to the 312, rated at 245 hp gross in four-barrel form.
