The 1992 Ford Taurus opened the second generation as a restyled, slightly larger front-wheel-drive sedan and wagon, and it was the best-selling car in the United States for 1992 with 409,751 sold. The standard engines were the pushrod Vulcan 3.0 V6 and the Essex 3.8 V6, both with the four-speed AXOD-E automatic. The performance SHO used a Yamaha-built 3.0 dual-overhead-cam V6 with a five-speed manual.
