Ford Thunderbird
1955 Ford Thunderbird Specs & Photos
The 1955 Ford Thunderbird launched the model as a two-seat convertible with a removable fiberglass hardtop and optional folding soft top, built on a 102-inch-wheelbase body-on-frame chassis. Its only engine was the 292 cubic inch Y-block V8, rated at 193 gross horsepower with the standard three-speed manual and 198 gross horsepower with the optional Ford-O-Matic automatic; a three-speed manual with overdrive was also offered. As the first Thunderbird, the 1955 car was Ford's personal-luxury answer to the Chevrolet Corvette and outsold it heavily in its debut year.
The 1955 Ford Thunderbird is part of the First-Gen Thunderbird generation (1955–1957). See the full Ford Thunderbird 1955–1957 registry →
