The 1962 Ford Thunderbird continued the third generation as a hardtop coupe and convertible, powered by the 390 cubic inch FE V8 rated at 300 gross horsepower with a Cruise-O-Matic automatic. Ford added two notable models for 1962: the Landau, with a vinyl roof and landau bars, and the Sports Roadster, which used a fiberglass tonneau cover over the rear seats and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. A tri-power 390 with three two-barrel carburetors, the M-code, was optional and rated at 340 gross horsepower.
