The 1978 Ford Thunderbird was a seventh-generation carryover two-door coupe on the mid-size chassis, and it introduced the Diamond Jubilee Edition marking Ford Motor Company's 75th anniversary with exclusive paint and trim. The standard 302 cubic inch (5.0L) V8 was rated at 134 SAE net horsepower, with optional 351 cubic inch (5.8L, 152 hp) and 400 cubic inch (6.6L, 160 hp) V8s. Sales again exceeded 300,000, making it one of the best-selling Thunderbirds.
