The 1991 Isuzu Rodeo launched the nameplate in the United States as a midsize five-door SUV built at the Subaru-Isuzu Automotive plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Base power was Isuzu's 2.6-liter four rated at 120 horsepower, with a General Motors 3.1-liter V6, also rated 120 horsepower but with more torque, as the step-up engine. Trims ran S, XS, and LS on a body-on-frame chassis shared with the Isuzu pickup, in rear- or four-wheel drive.
