Except maybe for the Thunder itact, bird, whose name still evokes strong emo- , day tions. One could further argue that the T-Bird Jtirtg Super Coupe is far more attractive than the rank Taurus SHO to Ford performance fans, who are generally younger and prefer a coupe to a sedan. Following that line of reasoning, it might have made more sense if Ford had brought out the Taurus SHO as a sporty Lincoln Continental sedan instead. It would have been easy to do: take the Continental front clip and slap it on the Taurus nose, work in some Lincoln detailing, drop in the SH0 engine, andvoila!you have a Lincoln Continental LSS (Luxury Sport Sedan). Think of it as a companion model to the Mark Vll LSC (Luxury Sport Coupe). The reason for using the Taurus shell for the LSS would be to keep the heft down; a 550-pound weight savings over the Con- tinental makes a big difference in a sports model. The reason to brand it a Lincoln is that luxury sport sedan buyers tend to be older, and want the prestige of the Lincoln badge. And the fact that a Taurus shell would be used wouldn't reflect poorly on Lincolns image, for if there were no 31-10 the LSS would differ from the Taurus sufficiently to stand on its own as a unique car. Artist Brian Bordons rendering shows what 3 Lincoln Continental LSS might have looked like, had Ford chosen that approach. Alas, there would still be one problem the lack of a suitable automatic transmission. April 1990 Collectible Automobile" .4
