The 1992 Mercury Topaz received a facelift within the second-generation (1988-1994) car, adding monochrome bumper covers and side trim, a one-piece grille light-bar, and restyled taillights. For 1992 the 3.0L Vulcan V6, rated at 135 hp and 150 lb-ft, joined the lineup as an option above the standard 2.3L HSC pushrod inline-four (96 hp net). This front-wheel-drive compact was sold as a 2-door and 4-door sedan with a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic, and the on-demand all-wheel-drive option offered through 1991 was dropped. A driver's side airbag was available, continuing a feature the Topaz had first offered in 1985.
