1996 Pontiac Grand Am Specs & Photos
The 1996 Pontiac Grand Am is part of the fourth-generation N-body compact (1992-1998), offered as a two-door coupe and four-door sedan in SE and GT trim. For 1996 the base powerplant became the 2.4L LD9 Twin Cam DOHC inline-four rated at 150 hp (net), replacing the earlier 2.3L Quad 4, with the 3.1L 60-degree V6 (155 hp net) optional. A five-speed manual was available with the four-cylinder and a four-speed automatic with either engine, and 1996 also brought OBD-II diagnostics. The heavy ribbed lower body cladding remained a signature of this generation.
