The 1984 Toyota Hilux began the fourth generation, an all-new truck sold in the United States as the Toyota Pickup while keeping the Hilux name abroad. The redesign introduced the Xtracab extended cab, adding covered storage behind the seats for the first time. Power came from the carbureted 22R 2.4-liter four, and the new truck also donated its chassis to the 4Runner SUV that debuted during 1984.
