The 1988 Toyota Hilux closed out the fourth generation with its largest engine yet, the new 3VZ-E 3.0-liter V6 rated 150 horsepower. It was also the last year for the turbocharged 22R-TE four, which the V6 effectively replaced. A fully redesigned fifth-generation truck, still badged Hilux outside North America and Toyota Pickup in the US, arrived for 1989.
