The 1985 Toyota Hilux gained electronic fuel injection, with the new 22R-E 2.4-liter four rated 116 horsepower joining the carbureted 22R. It was also the final year American 4x4 models used a leaf-sprung solid front axle, a setup off-road builders still seek out, before independent front suspension arrived for 1986. In the United States the truck continued to sell as the Toyota Pickup rather than under the global Hilux name.
