The 1989 Toyota Pickup was all new, launching the fifth generation with a wider, more aerodynamic cab, a roomier Xtracab with storage behind the seats, and a choice of the 22R-E 2.4-liter four or the 150 horsepower 3.0-liter 3VZ-E V6. Motor Trend named the V6 Xtracab SR5 its 1989 Truck of the Year. The truck stayed on the global Hilux platform but was sold in the United States simply as the Toyota Truck, universally called the Pickup.
