| Quote: | | So, for the past few months of seeing this thread, I keep asking myself "whats the big deal"? What is so bad about the X's ride that installing these rods can "tame the beast"? |
J-Douglas - If you wish to read more about how the radius-rods work, along with some sketches / illustrations, just click on my username and send me an e-mail. I will reply with the info-pack I send to all inquirers. I cannot send it to you as an attachment through this website's mail-router, hence I ask that you write to me ... subject "Radius-Rods." This is not a sales pitch ... merely an invitation to send you more information. Maybe you will realize what to look for in the ride quality of your Excursion after you've read my information. I just can't post all of the information within the confines of this forum ... and I do not have a website of my own. And yes, like Eric said, I can make them to suit lifted rigs.
You mentioned you'll soon be installing a 4" lift kit, yet your signature says you already have a 5.5" lift. Are you experiencing problems with the existing lift kit? In any case, thanks for noticing all of the discussion in this thread.

Apparently you have been fortunate enough not to have experienced the rear axle steering that's inherent in the Ex. They wander at the worst times, particularly when the rear end hits bumps in a curve. Although frankly, I don't notice it too much in my Ex either, until I tow my travel trailer. 900 lbs of hitch weight being pushed by 9000 lbs of trailer causes a significant 'wiggle' that is scary as hell.

Just because of THIS thread, I found myself REALLY concentrating on my Excursion as I drove around town today. I found something that I am used to, but definitely a characteristic that NONE of my other cars have had. My Excursion wanders all over the highway. I am an experienced driver, so I guess I have just been "subconsciously" correcting the lane wandering as I drive. But, I definitely noticed it today since I was TRYING to find something that this thread has addressed. Not sure if this has anything to do with the rear-end dilemma that is mentioned here, but it is significant.
You know, it all comes down to my original question on page 17 of this thread.... I have lived with these mannerisms of my Excursion, but am I really missing something remarkable by installing the radius rods? After I post this, I will request an info pack from Landyot. I am just dying to know what I am missing.
PS.... I need to change my signature. The 5.5" lift was on my 2000 X. My 2004 is bone stock and WAY too low!

I am tempted as heck, Bill.
What did YOU notice on your Excursion that convinces you that you need the rods?

Axle wrap effect is something we have which became more pronounced after we put the F350 blocks on,the radius rods is a true fix to prevent axle wrap
If there's suspension upgrades/fixes for our Excursion you betchya I'm gonna hunt them down!

Well, I’ve had Landyots radius rods installed for a couple of months now, time to put in my 2 cents. First off, unlike most others, I’ve had NO wandering issues with my X. As a matter of fact, there is a short flat stretch of interstate on my way to work which my hands free driving record is 4 tenths of a mile (tires crossing white lines). I became interested in the rods because of a wiggle I have when towing (as a previous poster mentioned). I have an Equal-i-zer brand WD anti-sway hitch which I am sure is adjusted as good as it can. I ordered a set of Landyots rods, installed them, double and triple checked the installation. Took it out for a test drive,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I noticed absolutely NO difference from stock. Remember, I had no wandering before hand. I needed to wait for a tow (the reason I bought the rods). Went camping this past Thanksgiving, ~300 miles round trip. Hooked up the TT, got on the interstate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NO difference! I have never heard a negative comment about Landyots rods, so I was hesitant to make a comment. I’m absolutely sure that those that have installed them and said there is a night and day difference are being completely truthful. But in my case I had no wander before and have no wander after, I had a wiggle when towing the TT before, I have the wiggle after. |
