The 1996 Chevrolet Lumina was a second-generation front-wheel-drive W-body sedan sold in base and LS trims. The standard engine was the 3.1L L82 V6 rated at 160 net horsepower, with the LS offering an optional 3.4L LQ1 DOHC V6 rated at 215 horsepower for 1996, up from 210. Both engines used a 4-speed 4T60-E automatic. For 1996 the powertrains adopted OBD-II onboard diagnostics in line with the new federal requirement.
