The 1990 Ford Probe added the Ford 3.0-liter Vulcan V6 as an option in the LX trim, giving the first-generation Probe a six-cylinder choice rated at 140 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque. The Mazda F2 2.2-liter four (110 hp) remained the base engine, and the GT continued with the turbocharged Mazda F2T 2.2 rated at 145 horsepower and 190 lb-ft. The 1990 Probe stayed on the Mazda GD platform shared with the Mazda MX-6 and 626.
