The 1996 Ford Ranger carried the second-generation compact pickup with its updated interior and three engines: the 2.3 overhead-cam four-cylinder, the 3.0 Vulcan V6, and the 4.0 OHV Cologne V6. The 1996 Ranger 4x4 used the Twin-Traction-Beam independent front suspension with a Dana 35 and 28 hybrid front axle.
