The 1997 Ford Ranger was the final model year of the second generation before the 1998 redesign. The engine lineup was the 2.3 overhead-cam four-cylinder, the 3.0 Vulcan V6, and the 4.0 OHV Cologne V6, with a five-speed automatic available for the 4.0 V6. The 1997 Ranger 4x4 used the Twin-Traction-Beam front suspension for the last time before the 1998 short-and-long-arm front arrived.
