The 1998 GMC Sonoma received the second generation's major refresh, with new front styling and a redesigned interior that added a passenger airbag alongside the driver's. The base 2.2-liter four was rated at 120 horsepower, and the 4.3-liter Vortec V6 remained the top engine across regular and extended cabs. The ZR2 Highrider package carried on for 4x4 buyers.
