The 2000 GMC Sonoma marked the tenth model year for the nameplate GMC introduced on its compact pickup in 1991. Power came from a 120 horsepower 2.2-liter four or the 4.3-liter Vortec V6, rated at up to 190 horsepower, in regular and extended cab bodies with rear- or four-wheel drive. The ZR2 Highrider off-road package remained available on 4x4 models.
