The 1987 Jaguar XJ6 was the final model year for the Series 3 six-cylinder saloon in the United States, before the new XJ40 platform arrived as the 1988 XJ6. It continued with the 4.2 L XK inline-six and Bosch/Lucas L-Jetronic fuel injection, the four-door saloon body, and the Borg-Warner Model 66 three-speed automatic in US trim. The XK engine family dated to 1949, and the 4.2 L version made roughly 176 hp (net) in American specification for its last Series 3 season.
