Explanation of D.O.T. Edge Codes located on all Brake Pads, including coefficient of friction and comments.
Explanation of DlCLTl Edge Codes Located on all Bmke Fads . Coemoient oi Friction (CF) otoial 0.0.1: Edge Code @ 25 F and @ 500 F Comments EE 0.25 to 0.35 both temps 025% iade at 000 F possible 0.25to 0.35 @250 F .. . FE 0_3500_45@600F 2oto44biadeat000Fpossible FF 0.35 to 0.45 both temps 022% iade at 600 F possible GG 0.45to 0.55 Very Rare Carbon/Carbon only. H 0'55 0'65 D.K. up to 3000 F where it glows Notes: These edge oodes are located on the edge of the iriotion material of every biake pad by government regulation, along with some otheroodes. The rst letter is a giading orthe c.F. at 250 F and the seoond letter is a giading orthe material at000 F. Each lettergiade can actually have quite a range of CF. But a dilierenee in the lettergiade irom medium to hot tempeiature oould be an indicator of iade. The letters can be in any order. Thereiore FE pads iade when hot, and EF pads would not giab when oold.. Also, you should know that steel on steel has a CF. of0.25!! 50 EE pads have only marginally more torque than no pads at alll Thereiore FF pads are usually oonsidered the minimum iora high-performance pad.
