The 1988 Nissan 300ZX was a late Z31 model built after the 1987 restyle that introduced flush aerodynamic headlamps and revised front and rear fascias. Powertrains were the naturally aspirated VG30E 3.0L SOHC V6 at 165 net horsepower and the turbocharged VG30ET at 205 net horsepower, with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. For 1988 only Nissan offered the 300ZX SS Shiro Special, a lightweight two-seat turbo finished in white with Recaro seats and a viscous limited-slip differential. Two-seat hatchback and 2+2 body styles were offered.
