The 1999 Volkswagen New Beetle carried the retro body introduced for 1998 on the water-cooled, front-engine Golf Mk4 (PQ34) platform, built in Puebla, Mexico. The turbocharged 1.8T with 150 hp joined the 115 hp 2.0 liter and the 90 hp 1.9 TDI diesel this year. It shares a registry listing with the air-cooled Type 1 but is an entirely different car underneath.
