The 1982 Volkswagen Scirocco was the first US model year of the second-generation Scirocco (Typ 53B), a restyled three-door 2+2 hatchback coupe built on Volkswagen's front-wheel-drive A1 platform and assembled by Karmann in Osnabruck. US 1982 cars used a 1.7-liter (1715 cc) SOHC 8-valve inline-four rated at 74 hp (SAE net) with a standard 5-speed manual transmission. This second generation replaced the Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed first-generation Scirocco sold in the US from 1975 to 1981.
