Volkswagen Scirocco
1987 Volkswagen Scirocco Specs & Photos
The 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco was a late-production year of the second-generation Scirocco (Typ 53B), the Karmann-built three-door hatchback coupe on Volkswagen's front-wheel-drive A1 platform. The US 1987 lineup paired a base 1.8-liter (1780 cc) SOHC 8-valve inline-four making 90 hp (SAE net) with the Scirocco 16V, whose 1.8-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-four was rated at 123 hp (SAE net) in US trim, both using a 5-speed manual. Introduced to the US mid-1986, the 16V carried body skirts, a larger rear spoiler, and teardrop-slot wheels; US Scirocco sales ended after the 1988 model year, when the Corrado succeeded it.
