The 1985 Volkswagen Scirocco was a second-generation (Typ 53B) three-door hatchback coupe on Volkswagen's front-wheel-drive A1 platform, assembled by Karmann. US 1985 cars used a 1.8-liter (1780 cc) SOHC 8-valve inline-four rated at 90 hp (SAE net) with a standard 5-speed manual, the larger displacement having replaced the earlier 1.7-liter unit. It was a mid-generation carryover of the coupe restyled for 1982, one year before the 16-valve Scirocco reached the US market in mid-1986.
