The 1988 Chevrolet C/K 1500 launched the all-new GMT400 generation, the direct predecessor of the Silverado 1500, with Silverado as its top trim above Scottsdale and Cheyenne. Four-wheel-drive K1500 models adopted torsion-bar independent front suspension, and an extended cab joined the body lineup for the first time. Fuel-injected engines included the 4.3-liter V6 at 160 horsepower and the 5.7-liter V8 at 210, with a 5.0-liter V8 and 6.2-liter diesel also offered.
