The 1988 Chevrolet Suburban carried R series (2WD) and V series (4WD) badges, renamed from C and K in 1987 so the new GMT400 pickups could take those letters. Throttle-body injection, added to the 5.7L and 7.4L V8s at the same time, improved cold starts and drivability over the carbureted trucks, and the 6.2L diesel continued as the economy tow option.
