The 1962 Ford Fairlane reappeared as a unit-body intermediate on a 115.5 inch wheelbase, sized between the Falcon and the Galaxie. It introduced the Windsor small-block V8 family, launching with a 221 cubic inch version rated at 145 hp gross and adding the 260 at 164 hp gross mid-year, alongside the base 170 six at 101 hp gross. Two- and four-door sedans made up the initial range, with a bucket-seat Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe following during the year.
