The 2000 Ford Focus marked the nameplate's North American debut, replacing the Escort as Ford's mainstream compact. The range included the three-door ZX3 hatchback, a four-door sedan in LX, SE, and ZTS trims, and a five-door SE wagon. Base models used a 2.0-liter SPI four rated at 110 horsepower, while the ZX3 and ZTS carried the 16-valve 2.0-liter Zetec rated at 130 horsepower. The Focus won the 2000 North American Car of the Year award.
