The 1971 Ford Ranchero was the final year of the intermediate Fairlane and Torino generation. It carried the 250 inline-six base engine, the 302 and 351 V8s, and the 429 Cobra Jet as the top performance engine in the Ranchero GT, all rated SAE gross. For 1972 the Ranchero moved onto the larger Gran Torino platform, and the industry switched to SAE net horsepower.
