The 2003 Ford Taurus continued the fourth-generation sedan and wagon with the pushrod Vulcan 3.0 V6 at 155 horsepower and the dual-overhead-cam Duratec 3.0 V6, both with a four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The Vulcan was standard on the LX, SE, and SES, and the SEL used the Duratec. Fleet and rental sales were a major part of Taurus volume by this point.
