The 1986 Ford Thunderbird was a ninth-generation carryover two-door coupe. The 232 cubic inch (3.8L) V6 remained standard and the 302 cubic inch (5.0L) V8, now with sequential multiport fuel injection, was optional, while the Turbo Coupe kept its turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder. A federally required center high-mounted stop lamp was added for 1986.
