1972 Ford Torino Specs & Photos
The 1972 Ford Torino introduced the third generation, a larger redesign that switched from unibody to body-on-frame construction and added the upscale Gran Torino series with a prominent oval grille. Engine options were the 250 cu in (4.1L) inline-six as standard and the 302 (140 hp), 351 (163 hp), 400 (172 hp), and 429 (205 hp) V8s, plus a 351 Cobra Jet rated at 248 hp, all now quoted in the new SAE net horsepower standard. Body styles were a two-door hardtop, a two-door SportsRoof fastback, a four-door pillared hardtop, and a station wagon, with no convertible offered after 1971. Three-speed and four-speed manuals and the Cruise-O-Matic automatic were available.
The 1972 Ford Torino is part of the Gran Torino generation (1972–1976). See the full Ford Torino 1972–1976 registry →
