1978 Harley-Davidson Super Glide Specs & Photos

The 1978 Harley-Davidson Super Glide, sold as the electric-start FXE, used the 74 cubic inch (1200cc) Shovelhead V-twin with a 4-speed transmission during Harley-Davidson's 75th anniversary year. The larger 80 cubic inch (1340cc) Shovelhead reached FL models in 1978 but did not become available on FX models until 1979, so the 1978 FXE retained the 74 cubic inch engine. It used points ignition, dry-sump lubrication, and chain final drive, continuing the FX line launched in 1971.
