Harley-Davidson Super Glide
1981 Harley-Davidson Super Glide Specs & Photos
The 1981 Harley-Davidson Super Glide (FXE) used the 80 cubic inch (1340cc) Shovelhead V-twin with a 4-speed transmission and electric start, rated at roughly 65 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. By 1981 the 80 cubic inch engine had become the standard FX big twin, replacing the 74 cubic inch unit used earlier in the 1970s. 1981 was also the year a group of executives completed a management buyout of Harley-Davidson from AMF. The FXE continued the Super Glide line Willie G. Davidson introduced in 1971, and by this point electronic ignition had replaced points across the big-twin line.
