The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee added the TSi, a street-oriented trim with monochromatic exterior trim slotted between Laredo and Limited. Mechanical specifications carried over from 1996, with the 185 horsepower 4.0-liter inline six standard and the 220 horsepower 5.2-liter Magnum V8 optional. ZJ production continued at Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, with the platform now in its fifth model year.
