The 1979 Jeep Wagoneer is a full-size, body-on-frame four-door wagon on the SJ platform, a design Jeep had produced since the 1963 model year. Power came from the AMC 360 cubic inch (5.9L) V8 driving a three-speed automatic transmission, with Quadra-Trac full-time four-wheel drive standard on the top Limited trim. The 1979 model was a mid-generation carryover of the SJ line, sold in Custom and Limited trims, the Limited distinguished by woodgrain bodyside trim and added interior equipment.
