The 1984 Jeep Wagoneer is a compact, unibody four-door wagon on the new XJ platform, launched for the 1984 model year alongside the Jeep Cherokee. It offered a 2.5L AMC inline-four (about 105 hp) and a GM-sourced 2.8L V6 rated at 115 hp, with four-speed and five-speed manual transmissions and a three-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive used either the part-time Command-Trac or the full-time Selec-Trac system. Sold only in four-door form, the Wagoneer and top Wagoneer Limited (with woodgrain bodyside applique) were the upscale versions of the XJ line, separate from the full-size SJ Grand Wagoneer that continued alongside it.
