The 1981 Jeep Wagoneer is a full-size, body-on-frame four-door wagon on the SJ platform, in production in this basic form since the 1963 model year. Engine choices were the AMC 258 cubic inch (4.2L) inline-six, reintroduced as an economy option after the 1979 energy crisis, and the AMC 360 cubic inch (5.9L) V8. It used a three-speed automatic transmission with Quadra-Trac full-time four-wheel drive standard on the Limited. The 1981 Wagoneer was a mid-generation carryover offered in Brougham and Limited trims, the Limited featuring woodgrain bodyside trim.
