The 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII was the final year of the original 1993 body style, offered as a base coupe and the LSC. Both used the all-aluminum 4.6L DOHC 32-valve V8, rated at 280 horsepower in the base car and 290 in the dual-exhaust LSC, with a 4R70W four-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. The 1996 Mark VIII LSC continued the DC HID headlamps introduced on late-1995 LSC cars, and low-speed traction control remained optional. Computer-controlled air suspension stayed standard across the range.
