The 1993 Mazda MX-6 opened the second generation on the GE platform, shared again with the 626 and with the redesigned Ford Probe built on the same line at Flat Rock, Michigan, by then the AutoAlliance International joint venture between Mazda and Ford. The turbo four was dropped, and the top LS trim instead used the KL-DE 2.5-liter DOHC V6 rated at 164 horsepower. The base RS ran the FS 2.0-liter four making 118 horsepower.
