Mazda's MX-6 met the 1996 model year with OBD-II onboard diagnostics, newly required on every car sold in the United States. The coupe continued on the GE platform with the 118 horsepower FS 2.0-liter four and the 164 horsepower KL-DE 2.5-liter V6 in the LS. Assembly stayed at AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Michigan alongside the Ford Probe.
