Since the original tiedowns are just holes below the bedrail in each stake pocket, I decided to add modern BoxLink plates & (
genuine Ford HL3J99286D62AA) tiedown cleats. I had to design my own reinforcements & spacers to mount the
aftermarket plates through the bedliner. And getting them placed & drilled properly took some effort (to avoid unnecessary cuts in the bed or liner), but it came out at least as well as I hoped.
The top left shows the custom parts I had fabricated locally on a CNC laser table. I drilled & tapped them for some JY original Ford bolts (M8x1.25mm w/10mm heads & small integral or captive washer). Then I collected some tools & started laying out all 4 positions before cutting or drilling anything. The next step was to cut the drop-in bedliner (which came with the truck) so there would be clearance for the cleat to lock in behind the plate - that also gave me better access to the truck bedwall. After carefully positioning & squaring the plate on the bedliner, its holes were marked and 1 was drilled just large enough to fit a bolt through the bedliner, spacer, & bedwall into a nut plate. That bolt was tightened enough to hold them all in-place while the hole for the opposite corner was drilled, bringing the spacer into alignment. Then gum adhesive (TackyTape) was applied to the nut plate so it wouldn't rattle or fall, and it was bolted down to the cleaned interior of the bedwall.
