ENGINE MAINTENANCE After Engine Warm-up ADJUSTING INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE CLEARANCE Adjustment should be made while engine is warm but not running. 1. Start engine and warm it up until water tem- perature indicator points to middle of gauge. Then turn off engine. 2. Remove valve rocker cover. Rotate crankshaft. 4. Set No. 1 cylinder in top dead center on its compression stroke, and adjust valve clearance (D, , and . 5. Set No. 4 cylinder in top dead center on its compression stroke and adjust valve clearance @.@,and .. If it is operating, wait until it stops. 5. Apply parking brake and block both front and rear wheels with checks. 6. When measuring CO" percentage, insert probe more than 40 cm (15.7 in) into tail pipe. WARNING: 3. Inspections should be carried out while shift lever is in D" position on automatic transaxle equipped models and in "Neutral" on manual transaxle equipped models. b. 0n automatic transaxle equipped models, racing the engine should be carried out while shift lever is in "N or "P" position and brake pedal should be depressed. c.
