The 1993 Ford Probe GT features aggressive styling and a cab-forward design.
42 JUNE 1992 MO TOR TREND The difference between the GT model and the entry-level Probe are plentiful, inside and out. Ford gave the high-perfor- mance variant a more aggressive exterior appearance, distin- guished by unique nose and tail treatments. The new car has a wider stance and less front and rear overhang. This new styling approach is the direct result of Ford design vice presi- dent Jack Telnacks conversion to the cab-forward" styling philosophy, which demands the base of the windshield be moved forward to enlarge the amount of useable interior space. Compared to the 92 Probe, the new front glass is 5.5 inches forward and cowl height is 2.9 inches lower. The Probe GT is fluidly aggressive-looking without resorting to aerodynamic hang-ons that often seem like afterthoughts. Flip-up headlights were retained, and the Probe-signature wraparound backlight and narrow pillars give a bubble-top look. Wheelbase is up almost 4 inches, but overall length is up less than 2. box is available as an option. The optimized vespeed offers a positive feel and solid gear engagement Without hesitation through the gates. An impressively Wide powerband meant we could quickly tour Fords twisty Dearborn test facility in second gear over fully three quarters of its length. Performing the same tour mostly in third gear made for about the same lap times at a lower rpm.
