In that per- iod of time Carroll Shelby acceler- ated from the bib-overalled country bumpkin stage to a custom-clothed multi-millionaire, and established Fords unbeatable racing image. First for Shelby was a 260-power ed, outmoded AC, better known as the Cobra, which in time grew in dis- placement to 289 and then on to 427 < andg428 cubic inches.
