The Champion apparently wasn't built to be outdoors, despite being marketed as an ATV winch. It corroded internally to the point that the armature shorted against the commutator & permanent magnets. This one appears to be built from many of the same parts, but it has a better warranty, and was only $100 at Northern Tool.
